Orlando de Guzman has worked with the BBC, PBS and Al Jazeera as a correspondent, director, producer and editor. He asked Benjamin Drummond and I to create an online outlet for his independent documentaries at archipelago.tv. Benj created the stellar design and I handled the WordPress implementation and custom programming.

Special care was taken to allow Orlando to easily embed his films through Vimeo and YouTube, creating a seamless experience for the viewer. Check out his amazing work at http://archipelago.tv.

Expeditionary Art

A complete overhaul of Maria Coryell-Martin’s expeditionaryart.com, built on a WordPress installation. This new version presented the challenges of keeping the portfolios front and center, while making Maria’s blog and store more accessible. Custom javascript galleries display portfolio images without reloading the page, and new tools allow Maria to easily update her portfolios and other site content.

The Post

post

The Post is Garfield High School’s student-led outdoor education program. Students raise money, buy food and supplies, plan logistics and carry out trips that range from weekend bicycle outings to two week long canyoneering adventures.

The Post needed a new site that put the trips front and center. Post members can now find the forms they need and information on upcoming trips and events, and stay up to date on all Post activities.

Beneath the shiny new exterior sits a custom made member and trip management system. Student staff can easily update member information and group members according to a wide range of criteria, and keep track of details like member training and certification.

The entire site was built with Ruby on Rails.

Girls on Ice

01/20/09

Girls on Ice is a free wilderness science education program for high school age girls. Each year a team of 9 teenage girls and 3 instructors spend 8 days exploring and learning about mountain glaciers and the alpine landscape through scientific field studies with professional glaciologists, mountaineers and artists. The program relies on donations to continue to provide an amazing learning opportunity to students who might not otherwise be able to afford this type of experience.

The Girls on Ice website is based on a custom WordPress installation.
